Thanks brother for sharing this information. I as well use the local uptown and downtown Augusta VA facilities since I retired 2 years ago and have been there more than a numerous times for non emergency issues and appointments and have been treated professionally and medically and overall have been happy with the care I receive there. The buildings could definitely use some renovation but I am sure there are budget concerns

Thanks for the info. Augusta is my local Va Hospital. I have never had any serious problems. Always treated with respect and professionalism. I had cataract surgery there. I was duly impressed that day. Of course, I was not in an emergency situation.
The only issues I ever experienced are much too common though. Getting something scheduled. Takes forever. And it seems like the preferred method of avoidance is don't answer your phone or pick it and hang up to stop the ringing. Ughhh
Your mileage may vary.
Thank You all for your service!

Well I know in the 4 years I was employed there we had an “acting director” so many times that I couldn’t tell you who was in charge the majority of the time. I can’t speak for any other departments except for the few I worked with, but I remember often times seeing veterans who would drive 6 hours to come to Augusta rather than going to their local VA medical centers due to the quality of care.
Makes me sad to read such reports, but then again after reading about Roseberg OR VA issues I can see why it happens. When the only numbers that ranking bodies care about is deaths in facilities and how many patients are on the critical list then some person is going to try and play shell games with the numbers. It’s not right, but it happens in all hospitals not just the VA.
Still scratching my head though in a city like Augusta how someone could not receive prompt emergency level care. You have Augusta university hospital connected by a sky bridge to the downtown Augusta facility, trinity hospital 6 blocks or so from the uptown facility. Doctors hospital on the other side of town and then university hospital within about 15 blocks of not uptown and downtown facilities and all these facilities have emergency room facilities and many have life saving specialties such as cardiology. When I lived in the CSRA you couldn’t go to the grocery store without running into a nurse or physician from one of the major hospitals.

I went to the Orthepedic clinic in September of 2017 with bone spurs and herniated disc and needing a right shoulder replacement surgery. The Orthepedic resident stated I needed a right shoulder replacement surgery and for me to come back in three weeks to discuss with her boss. When I went back her boss entered the room and asked me what was my problem very nasty. I then responded did you review my record? He blew his breath with a sigh and walked out for about 2 minutes and came back. His response when he came back states that there is nothing wrong with your shoulder. Mind you I had an mri from the previous VA in NJ before I moved to Augusta. I then went out on my Medicare and saw the Augusta Sports medicine clinic with both mri’s and the doctor stated the only way I could get out of pain is to have a right shoulder replacement surgery.. it was done December 2017 with no complications. Needless to say I will not allow Augusta VA to do any thing to me but take care of the common cold. I have no respect for their doctors at that VA hospital.

That is an embarrassment to the VA, the USA and to every Veteran. Some people should get out of the medical profession. Thank God for the good ones.
