RP Members what are your thoughts on the VA Moving to outside sources (Good or Bad)? Is there more research that needs to be done, so our veterans are getting the best possible care?
Three of the country's leading veterans' service organizations said they're generally pleased with the Veterans Affairs Department's budget request for next year but are concerned the department is moving too quickly to provide health care outside of VA facilities.

The one here in Maine keeps changing doctors on me I have gone through atleast 12 since 1999

I have used the veterans choice option and I am NOT happy with it, the Civian Doc that I saw said he new what was wrong and then said that I would be contacted by a specialist and nothing happened and now I will have my V.A. Doc reschedule another appointment with the V.A. Hospital yes its 150miles away for me but I would rather have things done right by someone who knows the my medical history vs. somebody who have no information other than what they were given to work with.
That 150mile is worth the trip to the V.A. hospital for treatment by a specialist who works for the V.A. and my local V.A. clinic and V.A. Doc is just a 5min. trip locally.
The veterans choice program has some serious bugs right now and can probably be fixed over time but it still does not beat going to the V.A. clinic or hospital its just better service. the civilian side at this point doesn't understand the V.A. system because its a whole other beast than what they would normally see.
Just my opinion the V.A. system works better for me.

I'm always leery of Outsourcing. Money that could be spent in Operations is spent on Overhead, Less money works it's way down to those performing those services with nowhere near the Protections afforded Federal Employees. Time will be the Judge but I will always find it more suspect than Government Run.
