SGT (Join to see) LTC Stephen F. SMSgt Minister Gerald A. "Doc" Thomas SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL TSgt Hunter Logan CPT (Join to see) CPT Walt Tollefson The Temple VA hospital can't seem to keep and maintain doctors. The choice program needs to be expanded to properly treat veteran medical needs.
In the past I have gone to pain management using my TRICARE at a civilian facility to push the VA to address little medical situations like cancer and spinal stenosis. Non retirees do not have that option!

The completed a huge new hospital at Fort Hood which it appears is not able to take care of active duty. Since, I have seen soldiers doing OT off post with me a civilian providers.
Never happened during my time active at a stateside military post.

SGM David W. Carr LOM, DMSM MP SGT, At the Houston VA, there are veterans who come there, instead of going to the Temple VA. I've heard some bad stories about the Lufkin, and Temple VA.

SGT (Join to see) - there is an ever increasing veterans population coming out of Fort Hood community. But the VA and the Army has not grown with the times. They continue to have facilities supporting the much smaller San Antonia area as just one example.

SGM David W. Carr LOM, DMSM MP SGT, there is finally some construction at our Houston VA for expanding the hospital. It's about time. That VA has been the same size since the 70's. With the wars in the Middle East, the hospital is way overcrowded. My opinion is the staff does good with what they have.

The VA does a lot of good. it is a shame that there are also so many problems and they over shadow everything. Instead of constant investigation, go in audit, review, inspect and correct the issues. Stop wasting money on false probes.

Some of the VA employees do a great job. At my VA, my best staff are in Mental Health, Audiometry, and the Dental office. I see about 7 or 8 doctors, and three out of eight are the best, IMO. That's not a very good ratio. I sure wish some of these specialties, like the VA pain schools, were in all of the VA's. We don't have pain doctors that I know of. I could sure use one right now.
