Sounds good to me. They are astronomically unlikely as a future foe, they are a good foil to Chinese expansion, and of course we need the money.

SGT (Join to see) - Sergeant; What you have to remember is that there are "Good Communists" and there are "Bad Communists".
Of course if the US government hadn't spurned the overtures of the Vietnamese people BEFORE Ho Chi Minh was forced to "turn to the Communists" in order to oust the colonial French government that was being propped up by the US government, then there wouldn't likely have been any "issue" with Vietnam at all.
You might also want to note that (although it isn't all that "free") Vietnam gets a better "Freedom Index" rating from the Cato institute than Saudi Arabia does.

COL Ted Mc, That's good to see. According to the Vietnamese lady who cuts my hair, every time she goes back to see her family, (every two years) she tries to give them money. They won't take it for fear of being thrown in prison or worse. Even she still worries about getting arrested for leaving Vietnam on a boat. She said the poor are treated like animals. So, not much has changed since I was there except it's a communistic society now. It was pretty much like that back then but called a republic. What a joke.
