What a wonderful human interest story! I worked at a high end retirement community for a few years and saw a number of families get devastated by dementia of one sort or another. Some of the residents had become personal friends and that made going to work difficult on occasion. The slow loss of a mind is worse than the weakening of a body. It distorts the very essence of the person and takes away all dignity. Lt. Col. LaFranzia will always deserve a salute - retired or not - for taking the time to help this vet and his family through a difficult time, and in a so meaningful way. He created new, pleasant memories for Mr. Silk and his family to share.

This Vietnam Veteran Mr.Lawrence Silk even suffering for dementia still holds true to the Oath we as Service members all take, amazing and the equally honorable LT COL LaFrazia shows we never leave anyone behind, never!
