Not the kind of military duty I'd opt for, but it sure is a neat little thing to play with in Uncle Sam's toy box.

Not as claustrophobic as people make it out to be. Tons of fun and of course extra money and the best food in the military. What's not to like?

PO3 Donald Murphy - Unfortunately I suspect Air Force can lay claim to the best (food, barracks, dependas, Etc., Etc., Etc.) in the military.

SGT Dave Tracy - As an Air Force brat for 20 years, I'll give you the bases, comforts, etc. But submarine food is the best in the military. Subs also get paid the most of any branch. Because of the "arduous/hazardous" duty, a sub supply officer is given carte blanche for the menu. Unlimited portions, etc. Surf and turf most weekends with lobster tails, filet, etc. Also because of the hazards, our pay is higher.

But yes, my Army uncle and Air Force dad had better creature comforts. The base housing I grew up in was unparalleled. And every Christmas, we looked forward to the AFEES catalog!
