I hope the United States Postal Service never goes away. Postage stamps make great lens covers.
I have a retired Marine buddy who works for a market research company. He was demonstrating the degree to which we are tracked. He told me the date I last ran errands, the address of every place I stopped at that day, and the time I arrived and left. At every place that has a computerized inventory system and I made a purchase, he could tell me what I purchased, the amount of the purchase, and my method of payment. He also knew what TV shows were on the two TV's in my house that day.
He also guessed that I was accompanied by a elderly neighbor on my errands, because the neighbor made purchases at the same stops either immediately before or after me or was in each store the same time as me. He was right. The neighbor had his eyes dilated and couldn't drive that day, so I drove him around.

PO2 Robert M. - Absolutely. Carefully check the terms of use on any electronics you use and any grocery discount card. They tell you they are going to do it.

PO2 Robert M. - They track your location via combination of cell phone towers (usage data may be held by third party providers - tower operators particularly in rural areas), in-store signal boosters for your cell phone, and electronic fund transfers debit cards, credit cards, check verification services, and toll electronic payment services -many of which also capture cell phone data)
If you subscribe to cable television service, or satellite service, or programming service (NETFLIX, HULU etc.), your viewing habits are tracked and stored. Absolutely the same as your internet search history is stored by your internet provider, whether you delete browser history or not. That's why you do not hear about Nielsen Ratings anymore but they can tell your viewership on any television. That data is stored correlated and actually used to target you for advertising that fits your projected demographic and purchasing habits. Somewhere between 15% to 30% of the advertisement you see on TV is targeted to your household, and better than 50% of internet advertising.
The capture and sale of detailed information about you and how you spend your dollars is BIG business.
As an example, my household, white married couple over 50 years of age with a significant number of electronic payments to cardiac healthcare providers am more likely to see advertisements for catheters and blood pressure medications than a household with a single black female under 30 who will see commercials for dating services and on-line shopping services. Literally, the house next door may not see the same commercials as you while watching the same program.

Privacy is pretty much dead. The ability to draw inferences from data now is scary amazing.
