PO1 William "Chip" Nagel, eleven months later (1JUL43), my father entered the Navy’s V-12 program as a Seaman Apprentice at Tulane University in New Orleans. In early March of ‘44, he entered Midshipman School in NYC, and was commissioned on 29JUN44.
This was one of the standard methods the Navy used for training officers during WWII. As bad as the services needed personnel, I’ve often wondered why the training lasted so long.
By the way, he never mentioned meeting any WAVES!
