PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Anything to make it harder for farmers. We have enough regulations we have to follow. At one point they thought about taxing farmers who had cattle because cattle would belch and let out methane gas. They say that cow belching accounts for up to 26% of the methane gas in the atmosphere. So nothing surprises me anymore.

Not to mention regulating ground water, selling what you produce - milk, hay, etc. I recently filled out a 24 page "Farm use" questionnaire that covered the "gamut". And we're just a "mom-and-pop" outfit in retirement, with no plans to go "commercial".

Though the front of the questionnaire stated it was "for informational purposes only" but REQUIRED BY LAW, I tried to be as accurate as I could - and you'd better believe I made copies to help me fill out any other questionnaires we get down the road... :)

CW5 John M. We got the same questionnaire and we are like you, we have a small operation also. It is more a hobby than a business. We use the sale of our calves to pay for some of the taxes that they impose on farmers. We live in a state that we pay no taxes to buy farm machinery, we pay no taxes on parts, but yet at the end of the year they tax us on the "non-taxable" farm machinery!

WOW! The problem with centralized laws and regulations. That's why they get into volumes of paper, and yet still there's a "little guy" getting slammed downslope.......
