There is many benefits that a Commander can gain from having a Cyber team provided they fully understand what the Cyber mission involves. Unfortunately at the Brigade level the slots are all COMSEC and the Cyber portion is pushed to the back burner. Fortunately my S-6 realized the importance of Cyber during NIE testing when a red team was sent to penetrate our network. I will never be in a vault and I do IA in garrison. In the field my mission is strictly Cyber.
I digress, What can Cyber do for Commanders? It can keep enemies out of your network while performing missions, it controls the flow of data through your network, it detects possible attacks and remediates them. It attempts to prevent such attacks. And configures Security Devices.

It seems to have become an umbrella term used to justify additional funding more than an actual advancement of capabilities.
