When in doubt, blame EVERYTHING but the individual who did it. I'm sure there are folks who have mental illness, but now it's a catch phrase in line with "I feared for my life". You did it and your attorney's job is to lie, steal, and cheat you into the lesser sentence or an acquittal. It's less a problem than mass media outlets make it out to be IMO, but it garners clicks and massive comments from readers.

SSG Warren Swan, That's on spot. Almost every time there is a murder by gun, auto, whatever, they aren't guilty of anything because they are suddenly mentally ill. BS!

I agree. There is a lot to be said for personal responsibility.

I think its more an issue of frustration. With the jobless rate at one of the all time highest in the US, people are pushed over the edge. The mental health issue may be some issue as well.

It could be LTC (Join to see), but I think it's just people who want to kill other people. I think our society is becoming numb to horrific deaths, and they are becoming more and more common, and with all of the excuses an attorney can dig up to keep them from the death penalty. Plea deals are the thing now. A person kills multiple people and pleads out to a lesser crime, and the law protects them because they have rights. The victims families don't have any rights, except to listen to the killers attorney paint them as mentally ill, or not responsible for their actions because they are on drugs or drunk. I don't know anything except I'm fed up with the BS we have to put up with. I took my dog for a walk this evening and I was packing, just in case. That's ridiculous.
