Weren't we all taught to never volunteer while we were in the military? Why should we begin now? After all, Congress is no longer a place where we send our brightest and best. It's a haven for egotists and charlatans. I don't know many vets who fit that description, do you?

SPC (Anonymous) - Damn fine point. All politics are local and if we're going to have real change, change for he better, it has to start locally

SPC (Anonymous) - Have to agree! Real politics and, I meant for the best of the people represented, is at the local level.

Sgt Joe LaBranche, I've been saying it for a while, more of us veterans should be getting into politics. We know first hand what people w/ no time in uniform can do. Why not make a run for elected office and oust these morons from their respective seats? I've been having friend push me to get into politics after I complete all my schooling and possibly make a run for some state office, like governor. After all, governors are tasked with protecting the sovereignty of their respective states like the president (should) be for the nation - we are defenders.

CPT Jack Durish, I volunteered for 5 deployments (2 for Iraq and 3 for Afghanistan) and in the long run, never went anywheres (though I did want the experience). I don't think volunteering to run for elected office is the same though. Though you are right in stating, "...Congress is no longer a place where we send our brightest and best", why not give them all a run for their money and oust them from office? Let us undo the crap that they've pushed on the people of the United States.

Few and far between. I'd like to think that most veterans are too smart to put themselves into a position where what they can do or have done is irrelevant. As one person mentioned, at the local level there may be some worth and some vets serving, but why waste their talents at the National level. Sadly vets have a work for the good of the unit mentality, not the work for me mentality of most politicians.
