A few things not mentioned in the article that are needed in cities for craft brewery: physical space, clean water source, network of associated businesses (i.e. food trucks, musicians, etc.)

Cheers for that post PO1 William "Chip" Nagel The only locations I can speak to are in Palo Alto and San Francisco (unless one wants to upscale to Tuborg or Carlsberg).
Got to enjoy many a liter @ the *original* Gordon-Biersch on Emerson and also their location in San Jose. GB = since acquired and gone major coin.
As for SF, a 30-40 something-year-old co-worker (age doesn't matter if one is on the ball in SV and elsewhere) chucked his job (and his sweet yellow Lotus), followed his passion and co-founded a place in SF not far from where the Seals used to play. Permits, real estate and construction (in San Francisco- hello!). Murphy’s Law (plus their kids!). It took SEAL-like desire but he got it done. Barebottle Brewing Company. This BUDS for you Lester!
Now there are some SF guys in TX... Put a 12th flash on a can and I know a bunch of customers.
