I never understood their reliefs, other than I thought the upper brass was unhappy they were loved by their men and they committed the unforgivable sin of caring for and loving them back.

Thankfully, they both proved the higher ups they were among the greatest leaders of the war. Allen showed it with the 104th, and Roosevelt was a general without equal on D-Day.

I really despise big egos. To my mind, the worst thing any man can do is to always seek personal praise, especially if it's undeserved or at the expense of others. If one's abilities and achievements don't earn praise, then one should not try to make up for that with one's self-laudatory words.
