Being in a classroom environment was the best thing for me. It gave me the opportunity to meet new people and allow me the chance to communicate and learn different methods of learning from study groups etc. etc.

I suck at online classes, I much prefer to be in a brick and mortar setting.

I am very leery of American campuses these day. I live near UCI (University of California, Irvine) and am embarrassed by what I see going on there. I was embarrassed when my daughter attended it briefly about 10 years ago and it's only gotten worse. The problems with American campuses are legion. For one thing, they are too expensive. Tuition has been driven up by easily available grants and loans. They have invested heavily on amenities that have noting to do with education, but which attract students. They know the students can pay because they are flush with taxpayer money. The second problem is that American campuses have become indoctrination centers. The Left has become dominant in American colleges and universities, and education simply isn't their goal. It's indoctrination. The leads to the third problem: Most who have served will find a hostile environment on American campuses. Veterans must quickly adapt. Much as Vietnam Vets quickly ditched their uniforms and let their hair grow after their tours of duty, veterans would be well advised to keep their service and their opinions to themselves. Professors especially enjoy attacking anyone who respects and serves the Constitution. I could go on, but I think just these three points are sufficient warning to veteran scholars.

As to the purported benefits mentioned in the linked article, I doubt if they were ever true. I attended college and law school in a city-based campus until I entered the Army in 1965. Even then, campus-based colleges and universities were divorced from reality. As a member of my schools debate team, I had the opportunity to visit many such campuses including American U, Temple U, U of Maryland, Johns Hopkins, etc. Students there lived in a sterile academic environment. Even then socialism and communism were embraced (even truer today). At my school (and others like it) we lived and learned in a real world environment. Most of us worked at jobs in surrounding businesses of every type. Students at campus based schools were lucky to find jobs slinging hash in fast food restaurants. I am thankful to this day for my experiences.

CPT Jack Durish, Thank you for your contribution to this topic. I always enjoy reading your responses, especially if you have had hands on experience. I don't understand why veterans will experience a hostile environment. I thought all of that crap was behind us. Vietnam is barely mentioned in high schools, most of the wars for these kids have been in the Middle East, so I don't think anyone with a problem with vets knows what they are talking about. I don't understand the situation so I really shouldn't comment on it.

SGT (Join to see) - Anyone who shows up on campus with even a modicum of patriotism or pride is going to be the butt of professors' anger and other students will pile on for extra credit. I've seen it happen in high schools as well as colleges. I highly recommend that you read The Devil's Pleasure Palace to understand where all this comes from. I saw this happening with my own children and have listened to others complaining that its gotten worse, much worse as the years progress.

I agree, that is why you need to be careful about the school you want to attend.
