Why SpaceX is Making Starlink

I once asked my father-in-law if he could tell me about the first airplane he ever saw and he described a Wright-Patterson biplane with the pilot sitting on the wing. He lived to see men walk on the moon. Imagine the span of technology he witnessed in his lifetime. Now multiply that several times over and you'll have an idea of the span of technology I've witnessed. Indeed, the science fiction of Star Trek and Star Wars let along most that has been written (excluding Dune) pales in comparison. Now that space exploration has passed from the hands of government to private individuals and businesses, it is accelerating beyond even my wildest dreams. I know not how many years remain to me but I feel confident that I will see advances that reach well beyond those that I've already witnessed.
