It took us 20 years after the Soviets to put women, or at least train them in Field positions/ combat active roles.
Before the 30's / 40's they organized the WAC's Waves,... organized. Sadly, most women were not seen as equals of men and held back from Combat roles. It took over 30 years for women to even be placed in a combat unit. And even then, they weren't right up in the Frey of things. Other than Admin/ Nurses/ communication posts, women had been not Officially allowed into a fighting Unit.
The late 60's saw a budding of possible training mos's that were closer to the Front, or even trained as a member of a combat unit. From there that possibility of one day being able to train for fighting unit placement as an enlisted/ Officer in the Services and were posted to active units . More and more the idea of Women being in Combat roles was given more likelihood . Until the first Aviators and Seamen/ soldiers/ and Marines began the process of making CoEd units as it were, and women were not relegated to Supply/ Clerical/ administrative duties , nor stationed only in allied nations away from combat. That is a Plus for the Feminist movement of the 50's - the 70's.
They were the Suffragettes of their Time.
Now it is not only possible for women to fight in active combat areas, but also be in Command of the mixed gender units.
And Today have High Command positions in Charge of thousands of soldiers ,...
If not many thousands .
