"The good, the bad, the ugly..." What a wonderful description of the contenders. I like it. We may disagree on the distribution of these labels, but I'll bet that we can find at least one candidate for each that we might agree upon.
The truth is that politics, not even American politics, has ever been a gentle affair. Actually, it's far more polite than in the days of dueling and canings on the floor of Congress. Or maybe, it was more polite then when you might be shot for insulting an opponent.
I well remember one election to choose a Senator for the state of Maryland. The night before the balloting, the step-mother of one candidate launched into a tirade against her son. Yes, against her own son. Her husband had served in the Senate until he died. The widow screamed into the radio microphone that her husband would have been ashamed of the son's behavior and accused him of many forms of unscrupulous and depraved behavior. Now that is truly messed up, isn't it?

CPT Jack Durish do you remember what year that election in maryland took place? Was that a state senator position or a US senator position that step-mom/widow was accusing son of deceased husband in?
If the woman's accusations were true I am glad that she pointed them out but it must have been very hard for her to do that.

LTC Stephen F. - The Senator in question was Joseph Tydings, son of Milard Tydings. I believe he might have been the archtype of Joe Tynan (movie)

What State Republican Primary are you all referring to? One in South Carolina? I voted recently and there was no vote taken for a Presidential Candidate in that election.
