Sorry I didn't read the article and half the stuff I put down was already printed anyway I'm glad you mentioned it it's a good story it's a tear-jerking story thank you for reminding us about it. The man who tried to assassinate Hitler and this pilot were both professional soldiers and or anti Nazi

SFC William Farrell Bill, if you have a chance ,read this book. The author of this book gave so much detail on how this guy the German pilot started out with Lufthansa then he went flying Lufthansa into Spain during the Spanish Civil War. I believe his dad was World War 1 pilot and he's Catholic and they were basically anti-nazi but pro-German. His brother died as wellearly in WW2 and he was a pilot too I believe. The beginning of the books pretty sad or he's in line for a job after the war and someone notices his flight boots and they don't want to give him a job and end up getting in a fight and they break it up the cops take him away like they're going to arrest him and the cops themselves were ex-military and one of them actually was a guard at his Airfield and so they let him go they realize that he was a fighter pilot but they wouldn't hire him because he was singled out for having those Aviation boots and not protecting Germany.
The guy ended up flying me-262 Jets with the German General that was a rebel and the best ace of World War II. Because that is General stood up against Air Marshal Goering he survived a court-martial threat and Hitler made the ace General fight in a suicide Squadron of German Jets which this Brave pilot was assigned to. This compassionate Catholic or Christian anti Nazi Ace that saved the B-17 was at the right place the right time with so many people and he survived the war. He kind of remind me of that Von Stauffenberg the guy who was against Hitler because he was a professional Soldier.

My father in law was a judge in Germany during the 60's - 80's and was instrumental in restoring a pension for the widow of Colonel von Stauffenberg. I learned a great deal of history from him.

The book is called 'A Higher Calling'. The pilot of the me-109 pretended he was playing with the damaged B-17 prior to shooting it down so the German Triple-A would leave them alone. Great story. I will add a video on this shortly.

SFC George Smith - Thanks George. I would have loved to have heard them. My recently deceased Dad was a WWII vet, did not talk about it much. He pretty much got discharged and went on with his life.
