WWII Field Kitchen Overview

American GIs were fed a helluva lot better than most. One of my favorite stories from the Battle of the Bulge involves a German officer who discovered a chocolate cake among the supplies captured as the GIs withdrew. He interpreted it as a sign that the war was lost (for Germany). Imagine that the Americans could bake a cake in the US and expend the fuel to fly it across the Atlantic and have it arrive still fresh while the Germans didn't have enough fuel for their front line tanks.
