The Sand Pebbles (1966) was one of Steve McQueen's best efforts of his career, PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. In the end though, Machinist's Mate 1st Class Jake Holman didn't get the girl (Candice Bergen)!

It's one of my all-time favorite movies and actors too. I got to meet McQueen in Fabens Tx while he was filming the "Get Away" with Ally McGraw and Slim Pickens. Ran into Slim several years later in LAX while on my way home for Christmas leave. I had a picture of him and me with his autograph but my mom lost it some were in one of her moves.
