Document for Today, June 16th:
National Recovery Administration Blue Eagle

Following the enactment of the the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA), the National Recovery Administration (NRA) was established on June 16, 1933 in an effort by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to assist the nation's economic recovery during the Great Depression. The passage of NIRA ushered in a unique experiment in U.S. economic historythe NIRA sanctioned, supported, and in some cases, enforced an alliance of industries. The National Recovery Administration (NRA), created by a separate executive order, was put into operation soon after the final approval of the act. The administration was empowered to make voluntary agreements dealing with hours of work, rates of pay, and the fixing of prices. Patriotic appeals were made to the public, and firms were asked to display the Blue Eagle, an emblem signifying NRA participation.

Thank you my friend SGT John " Mac " McConnell for reminding us about the apex of FDR's federalization of the work force and employers - The National Recovery Administration :-)
"National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA), the National Recovery Administration (NRA) was established on June 16, 1933 in an effort by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to assist the nation's economic recovery during the Great Depression."
Thankfully the U.S. Supreme Court declared the National Recovery Administration unconstitutional in 1935. The aspirations by FDR for the NRA made the Affordable Care Act appear to be a nationwide association of lemonade stands by comparison :-)

Rise and Fall of the National Industrial Recovery Act
"The National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933 (NIRA or NRA) was the centerpiece of the early New Deal legislation. It organized industries into quasi-cartels and included codes of conduct regarding marketing, pricing, and labor standards. The codes included minimum wages and a general right to collective bargaining. There was initially much support for the NRA but as this video shows, the support began to fade. In 1935, the Supreme Court declared the Act to be unconstitutional. In the Court's view, NRA overstepped the traditional view that Congress could regulate only interstate commerce (such as railroads that crossed state lines). This view was later overturned by a Supreme Court decision in 1937 upholding the Wagner Act which regulated collective bargaining in more detail than NRA."
