Maintenance 101. Oil and grease are cheap. The components you destroy from lack of routine maintenance are not.
In Saudi I had a guy bring in a HMMWV once. Drove almost 10 miles with the park brake applied (older models the park brake was a disk on the driveshaft by the rear diff) but his complaint was it seemed to lack power and wanted to stop if he let off the accelerator. Litterally have to reach up and over the park brake handle to reach the transmission shifter so how he could miss that is beyond me. Pads cut through the disk and by the time he got to my shop the pieces were glowing like that. Those parts ended up on our "Wall of Shame" dedicated to crap operators found a way to foul up.
My boss had him decertified as a HMMWV operator.

Actually, it's a bit late for that activity. Now it's time for a referral to 3rd Shop.
