In our entire 45 years of married life, Kathy and I have only had two times where we did not have a Christmas tree. This year, because our newest grand baby, is coming, and she has learned to crawl. So we have to kind of baby proof the house. Who knows where those little guys can get to...and faster than these old bones and reflexes kick in. Kathy decorates a really mean tree...and I miss it.
The other time, was 45 years ago. Our first Christmas together. I was going to College, and she worked at a Mental Hospital. We had very little money...and couldn't afford a tree. So we got what you see in the picture.
A Christmas Plant. Kathy is Canadian, and I am from Ohio, and we were living in Texas...so no family members were within 2,000 miles of us, or someone would have given us a tree. But a plant was what we had...and Kathy dressed it up...and doggone if it wasn't pretty.
The challenge was, it took up our tiny table! So we ate at the counter for three weeks. LOL
And so the memories go. That Christmas was a delight. No real gifts, just stocking stuffers. But we did cook up a feast, and since both our neighbors were single, and away from their families...well, it was our duty to make it a Christmas feast. Kathy gave them each a pie to take home (we ate all the ones she made for dinner) and they had a good time. We watched old Christmas movies, they drank beer, Kathy and I had hot chocolate...and it was a very merry Christmas.

SGT Kevin Hughes-Since my birthday falls on December 25 ,good lord ,that means I’ll be eighty in a few weeks .I’ve been married for fifty four years to a woman who I tell anyone who will listen,She saved my life and I almost ruined hers, put up with an angry, hard drinking, wrong side of the tracks Vietnam Vet,who made some of her Christmases miserable, and stuck by me until this old fool finally got his head straight and found peace, that’s my Christmas miracle, Welcome Home Brothers.

You had a Guardian Angel...and she knows what you think of her. And that is the best gift you can give anyone. But I bet you got tired early of hearing: "That is your birthday AND your Christmas gift!" Happy 80th!

Thank you Kevin for the birthday wishes,I generally tell people it’s really for MY birthday they put up all the lights and decorations, seriously though what I prize I must have been back in 1945,poor Mom in the hospital at Christmas, another great woman I was lucky to have,Be Well Brother, and I’ve got a doozy of a story about a certain Spec 4 on the bunker line TuyHoa RVN 1966 ,later man, Welcome Home Brothers.
