Can someone please come up with a better nickname than "combat patch" for the SSI-FWTS?

It's just a pet peeve of mine but I really hate that term. I learned to hate it when I saw two Soldiers who worked in Kuwait were arguing about which "combat patch" since Kuwait is a "combat" area. The place with the NTV's that you could sign out and go to Chile's or TGIF in Kuwait City ... Ya, that Kuwait. I'm not down playing their service, only that f***ing term.

I think we need to get rid of the "my service was better than your service" attitude. You get deployed, even to Kuwait, you are being sent forth to do the job you joined up to do. Was it as hazardous? Maybe not, but it didn't suck any less.

Here is my question, when was this conversation, because Kuwait is no longer considered a war zone, I believe it was 2013 or 2014 that it was taken off the list. My old commander just came back from a stint in Kuwait and not of his guys were awarded a combat batch except the two who were sent to Bahgram air base.

I do not belive we need to change the nickname... but the stigma that comes with a Combat Patch. That if you don't have a Combat Patch you haven't experienced anything or done anything. I use to be one of these guys. I'd see someone in uniform of higher rank and no patch. "He hasn't been deployed... how is he that rank? He doesn't know anything." To the contrary, while I was overseas he was running the roads at Bliss, Hood, or any number of Military Posts we have around the world. Dealing with child abuse cases, domestic disturbances, ect. You don't know what someone has accomplished unless you read his or her records. The Stigma is what needs to be changed.

Everyone plays their part in a deployment whether it's a 92F or 42A in Kuwait, or an 11 series on the street in Baghdad.
I mean, the infantry gets food from somewhere, and when they capture dudes, they bring them to the MPs, and they found out from the 31U who found out from the Intel guy that the guy they captured was hiding in some house somewhere because the airplane took a picture of it.
Not one Soldier should be marginalized for their service, especially when they were away from home, just like everyone else.

Combat Patches are important for the ego and morale of the soldier.

This seems a bit whiney... I see your point, but if this is the most serious issue you have in your life, I would gladly trade with you... (I hope I don't sound to much like a jerk...)

MSG (Join to see) - Another name? Well everything is called warrior now so 'warrior patch', for some the 'glory patch', others the 'status patch... or how about... 'patch, cloth type 1 each, a symbol that represents a period of time spent in a theater of operations that greatly increased the possibility of injury or death while at the same requiring the potential need to terminate said threat instead of going to the safe place at the local community college'.

Your last option was longer than Shoulder Sleeve insignia for Former Wartime Service so let's just come back to that later.

MSG (Join to see), I'm inclined to draw some inspiration from Bill Mauldin: "Shoulder Sleeve Indicator for Membership in the Benevolent Brotherhood/Sisterhood Of Them Ones What's Been Shot At". And if people have a hard time pronouncing SSIMBBSOTOWBSA, then that just seems like it must be official-sounding enough to get approved despite actually meaning something.

CSM Michael Chavaree - It makes perfect sense, once you see the ranger BAT "Scroll", but since not all get one, how about Theater Patch? My 2 cents.

CSM Michael Chavaree - Yeah, but the old 1st & 2nd Bat scrolls are hard to find. i.e. Granada Rangers.
