What can I expect from being a 13F?
I just enlisted into the Army as a prior service marine. I come from an Arty background and I have a basic understanding of the job. I am curious about the day-to-days duties as a Sgt and what to expect in garrison and in the field. Thank you gents!

Double the field time. I’ll tell you this: there are only two types of FiSTers: the extremely good and the extremely bad. There is no middle ground, so work towards being the top! You can PM me for info and specific questions about it all, I gotcha.

In the right unit, you're absolutely correct. In the wrong unit where the 1SG just sees you as extra hands to task out for stupid shit, it can be the worst job in the Army.

Setting up OE254's, looking at a blank hill for three days while the MLRS Bn tries to get all the launchers up on digital before shooting a single round, pointless details the BC doesn't want to put his 13B's on, getting yelled at by Smoke. A lot. Rarely ever doing your job.
If the gods love you enough to stick you in an Infantry unit, life's a little better, but fresh-out-of-AIT Grunts will call you "POG" behind your back and some of them may actively disregard you just because you're not Infantry. But, you get treated a lot better by the command team and anyone who's ever seen hostile action and NEEDED their FiSTer.

But my info's old. I've been out since 2012. It might have got better, but I doubt it.
