"Feds insist Second Amendment doesn’t protect machine guns"
"Machine guns are atypical weapons not protected by the Second Amendment because a reasonable person would not expect them to be used in militia service, the federal government argued Wednesday before an appeals panel."
I would expect them to be used in Militia service. Doesn't every rifle squad have a designated machine gunner. Also Every rifle in that squad has a select fire switch.
The case discussed in this article is not settled. When a new precedent is made, any of it's language that covers language from an earlier precedent over rules the earlier. That is also discussed in this article, and leads to what I believe is an incorrect ruling.

People that legally own (have purchased the stamp, etc.) automatic weapons will probably have much to say regarding this!!!

While I understand the Fed's side, I believe they are wrong. The BAR and Thompson were sold to citizens in the 20th Century. Tax stamps are still available to people who want to own them today.
Wad this litigation wrong in changing his his
Glock into an automatic? Yes he was. Especially when he used in an illegal activity. He's a dumbass taking on the police with a machine pistol, especially if the troopers were armed with M4 carmine's. He's very lucky he didn't get copper and lead poisoning.
