SSgt Christopher Brose - Ok, I get that an average AR-15 round 223/556 can't reach out and effectively touch 1500 meters, but an AR-15 with the right shooter and optics along with the right cartridge shooting a .338 Lupua cartridge could effectively shoot 1500m.

SFC Harry H. - Well, duh. Relevant detail, don't you think? If you had a .338 Lupua AR-15 in mind when you were writing your previous posts, you should have mentioned it. Most people don't have .338 Lupua versions of the AR-15. Most people have .223 versions. The military has .223 (5.56) versions of the M-16/M-4, and the effective range of those is nowhere near 1500m.

In fact, I'd argue that the effective range of a .338 Lupua AR-15 isn't 1500m either. Part of what makes the effective range the effective range rather than the maximum range is the ability for an average competent shooter to be consistently accurate and for the bullet to do what it is expected to do. I don't think either one of those things applies to an AR-15 at 1500m, even for a .338 Lupua.

SSgt Christopher Brose - Well duh!!!? Don't talk to me as if I'm an idiot. You're the one who seems to know it all about AR's. You should of picked up on that when the conversation started. If there was any rounds capable as such and if so, you should of pointed that out. Regardless if I said it then or now, the fact is that it's possible. You can argue the effective range all you want, but unless you can prove it wrong, your just a lot of hot air like you have been.

SFC Harry H. What? "pretty sure" Are you serious? The M16A2 had a maximum effective range of 800m and none of us, in boot camp shot further than 500m. Most AR enthusiasts aren't even shooting the 5.56 cartridge, they are shooting .223 which is cheaper and has less muzzle velocity. They are also shooting carbine length rifles which brings the MER to an even shorter distance.

There are fallacies and hyperbole all over your posts above. Do not get on this site and lecture experienced users about firearms when it's obvious you have no clue about their purpose or function.
