Good afternoon, Rallypoint, and welcome to the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for January 14, 2025.
Are all those clouds surrounding a star? Well, sort of. Integrated Flux Nebulae (IFN) are high galactic latitude nebulae that are illuminated not by a single star (as most nebulae in the plane of the Milky Way Galaxy are) but by light from all the stars in the Milky Way. They are 'clouds' in the Interstellar Medium, and are composed of dust particles, hydrogen and carbon monoxide and other elements.
As the photographers here have probably guessed already, long exposure times are needed to capture IFN images. According to the notes the astrophotographer published, his exposure time for this composite image was 12 hours. The dust is scattering blue light and is fluorescing a broad red spectrum of light known as the Extended Red Emission (ERE) that adds an additional broad-band emission to the red part of the spectrum. Today's APOD shows the IFN around Polaris, the North Star.
Anyone want to suggest a caption for this picture? I'll post mine in a separate comment.

Don't Recall If You Had A Chance To Catch This Last Evening,But It's In Regards To Golden Pin I Purchased ~ The One Which Appeared To Be A Air Craft Or A Space Shuttle Craft:
"LMFAO ~~ NEWS FLASH !!
Hang Onto Your Shorts ~
Just On The History Channels Ancient Aliens Episode
Less Than An Hour Ago ~
Around 8:30 PM ~ Monday ~ 01/13/24\
Was The History Regarding The Design Of This Pin.
Its An Exact Replica Of Several Pieces Of Gold Items Found In
The Jungles Of Columbia ~~ Dating Back To Pre-Colombian Times.
And The Scientists Thought Exactly What We Did ~ "It Looks Like An
Air Craft Or Space Shuttle". ~ They Checked Out The Design And
It Was Aerodynamically Correct, So They Constructed The Item Much
Larger And Out Of Lighter Material, Put 4 Wheels Under It With An Internal
Engine Then Added A Propeller To The Nose ~~ It Took Off The Ground Like
A Rocket, Flew Around In The Air And Then Was Landed On The Ground With
No Issues What-So-Ever. ~~ NOW The Theory Is ~ And It Sounds Solid To Me ~
At Some Point Throughout Earths History, Possibly Millions Of Years Ago, An Entirely Different Group Of Beings Were Here On Earth With Far More Intelligence And Skills Than We Even Have Now; And There's An Excellent Chance They Designed And Possibly Used Flying Craft, Just Like The One Found In The Jungles Of Columbia. ~ W E L L Pucker-Up And Kiss Mine ~ That's Pretty Interesting And Just Plain COOL As All "L".
