Plastic is too valuable to throw away. Soon industry will be recovering plastic from landfills and oceans to use in ways like this. The answer to pollution is creativity and technology. Not as AOC advocates going back to the 19th century.

Sweet, I can still ride on jets!
Plastics are a problem, we need to figure it out before we have plastic microbeads in all our body tissues because they are consumed throughout the food chain.

Theres a ferry in my home town that goes from the Island to the mainland and back. As a kid I used to love yo ride it there were big turtles and porpoises now it plastic shopping bags and six pack rings. The good news one brewery has got six pack rings that are actually good for turtles to eat.

Plastic is not uniform in composition by any means, my friend Lt Col Charlie Brown, Certainly some plastics can readily be turned into something useful.
Since most plastics are made from petrochemicals, it is unsurprising that the plastics can be broken down into petrochemicals.

Thermoplastics, on the other hand, can be heated and remolded over and over again. Some thermoplastics are amorphous, while some have a partially crystalline structure. Thermoplastics typically have a molecular weight between 20,000 to 500,000 amu."
