One of the very cool things about living in the South ...Is that the Rich people don't care if you have money ...or not. If they like you, you get invited to the cook out. So Kathy and I got to go and enjoy a barbecue on the water. Beautiful back yards. Everyone had at least a Waverunner (or two). Some sailboats, and paddle boards were floating gently on the water.
We were outside and I snapped this picture of Kathy with her drink. When the Owner of the house came out and said:
"Wait, did you check the yard and under the deck?"
"No. Why?"
"just go in the house for a moment. I will check for Gators and let you know if it is okay."
"Wait, what?"
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. We check before we come out, because the Gators like to hide under the deck, or sun themselves in the grass."
"Oh, we just check for roaches at our house."
She laughed.
"Me, too. This is the South."
So glad the kids were indoors. I had a lot of chores as a kid, but checking the yard for alligators was not one of them.
The food was great, but nobody left any ribs in the yard. Because in any other situation that would be garbage, but down on the water...a rib bone is a lure.
