You never know when your training is going to come back to you. Or what fun it is to watch. So I went to Lowes to get one of those new fangled taller toilets. They are supposed to make it easier on both us old people, and folks like me who have arthritis.
So the guy that showed me the commodes, was a former Marine. The guy he called over to talk to me (who was an actual Plumber) - also a Marine. So wished them Happy Birthday - belated. The two younger guys overheard me thanking them for the Marine Birthday...and doggone if those two weren't Marines too.
It turns out, the First Marine used to be part of the Marine Platoon at the White House, but more than 30 years ago. Well the youngsters asked if he still knew how to "Present Arms" for Inspection. So one of the guys ran and got a four foot piece of wood.
And then, they watched as this guy went thru the whole series of commands and movements. And I have to tip my hat to the young guy, who acted like the Inspecting Officer. His movement were so sharp, I can't believe he didn't get a splinter. And he was so sure of himself, I swear that piece of wood had a bolt and a magazine on it. LOL

I wish I had brought my phone. It would have made a delightful short video. Kathy is off work tomorrow ...so we are going back to pick out the right toilet...and if that guy is there, maybe I can talk him into it again.
Just pure fun. He remembered it like he had just done it yesterday.

SGT Kevin Hughes Marines don't forget our boot camp training. I can still do the manual of arms and every movement with the rifle and drill. That will be with me until the day I die and then some. (Then some because Marines never die, we just go to hell and regroup!)

Recently, I told a fellow retiree, "You can take the boy out of the Army, but you can not take the BCT out of the boy."

Yep! Heck I could do it, and I have been out of Basic for fifty six years. But, to be fair, not as sharp as that Marine did it!
