It's really sad that the u.s. Navy was racist and when only allow minorities to be Stewart's cooks or ammo handlers. I'm glad he got the Navy cross and too bad he was killed later in the war.

You are absolutely right about that.

They have been looking a lot in recent years at individual citations for medals awarded to people of color. Some Nisei who received medals for bravely have been upgraded.

SGT (Join to see) - black men ripped off in the middle of Honor because of racist or biased officers. Jewish men or Hispanics as well as the nisei. I think if president Trump allowed for reviews and gave more upgrades based on Bonafide reports I think they'll find many more candidates for upgrading the metals. What really bugs me is the case of the sub Chaser from World War II that sank a German U-Boat and the crew sod get sunk the captain was made to go to school again because he didn't follow procedure and when the Navy finally gave the surviving son and a war they gave them the GED Believe It or Not Legion of Merit! The Legion of Merit! Not the Bronze Star not the Silver Star not the Navy cross not the Medal of Honor but the Legion of Merit and even then there's many levels of Legion of Merit! I can't believe the chief of Naval operations gave the surviving son the Legion of Merit. A couple of years ago they finally recognize that this subchaser sank U-166.
I can't find my original post from a year ago but I found the video on YouTube.

He truly cared about his shipmates. There were some that no doubt that did not care for him because he was of a different skin color BUT he did what was right and he undoubtedly loved his shipmates and ship. Hopefully he was an inspiration to others regardless of the color of their skin. Rest In Peace my brother.

Oops, here's the Nova Video on the sub Chaser off New Orleans that sank U-Boat 166 but it wasn't confirmed by the Navy until recently and they only gave the Legion of Merit to the son of the belated captain. What kind of horseshit is that? That's horrible he should at least have gotten the Bronze Star. Scroll half of the video and if are talking about the story about the ocean liner Robert E Lee sang by one torpedo from U-Boat 166 and the sub Chaser being right on the spot firing depth charges and later forensic evidence by the digital pictures show that the depth charges landed on the submarine when the submarine was probably only 20 or 30 ft down and it cooked off a torpedo blowing off the bow of the submarine. The sub Chaser didn't get credit for the kill the crew members were all bewildered and the captain was reassigned for additional training because he didn't follow procedure even though he scored a Kill.https://youtu.be/x4Igvkcalzg

The Legion of Merit with or without V device is still higher in Order of Precedence than a BSM. Navy wise that was indeed a Bravo Zulu way belatedly as it was awarding a LOM.
