Okay, I never knew this. Maybe you young guys used to High Tech stuff can explain it to me.
I met a Veteran at FoodLion just a bit ago. We had a nice chat. Turns out he had served in Afghanistan. I made him laugh when I told him about a story two Comedians said about their experience over there.
Kathleen Madigan and Lewis Black were on a Blackhawk flying to some outpost to do a show. Lewis asked through the Headset:
"Kathleen, where are we?"
She replied:
"We are flying back into the Bible Lewis, and not the good part."
He laughed and said that was true. He said that most folks live just like they did 600 years ago.
I asked him what he hated the most. And he told me:
"Finger printing the Taliban."
"WTF?"
He then told me that they carried something about the size of thick iPad...and they would get the Taliban to put their hands on it to scan their finger prints. He said they were making a Database, so they could find the bad guys, and track their movements.
He said the worst part was getting their fingers clean enough to make the machine work.
"You can forget about hygiene...it isn't high on their list."
Yikes.
But I never knew we had guys , just grunts, trying to get every Taliban Male's finger prints. Did that work? Were the Intelligence guys able to piece stuff together and track the bad guys?
When I told him Kathleen Madigan's description of the weather over there, he smiled.
"That about nails it. I will have to watch her special."
Finger prints, on patrol. Who knew?

So much we don't know. It is just hard for me to wrap my head around. Who came up with fingerprinting an entire country?

And it started in Kosovo? Wowza. I sure learned a lot today. And to think they boiled it down to where Infantry Grunts could perform the data collection in the Field. We truly are living in the Information Age.

SGT Kevin Hughes I was tech support on various FOBs and COPs. Never an operator.
It wasn't always voluntary. But we did have times that our guys would roll up toa village and everyone would come out, line up, and get registered.

MSG (Join to see) - I am still stunned. How in the world does anyone get hidden or away nowadays? And I just spent two hours working On Chat GPT 5.0...and well, it is better than I am by a long shot. Information is king...but disinformation is spreading faster.

SGT Kevin Hughes I wonder if we are trying to evolve an environment that is already a cultural mandate. Everything has reverted back to the original state of existence.

You are going to have to flesh out your comment a little for me. I am not as bright as you...I think I know where you are headed with this...but not sure.
