Way back in the late 80s when the internet was made up of government agencies, and universities, search was just search. It didn't have ads or algorithms weighting one result over another. The search algorithm was actually resident on your machine, a separate application. When I got my 1st PC I used web crawler to find that app and download it. Then along came the internet based search giants, and DNS servers, and my search engine wouldn't work any more. I don't use Google. I'm not paying them ad money because I looked for something, then had to scroll down to get past the sites that are paying them for higher placement.

SGT (Join to see) I remember this platform. When I entered the Computer I formation Systems discipline Web Crawler was functioning even though Netscape and other rising platforms were becoming Internet WWW wide.
