Nationalism is an ideology and movement that promotes the interests of a particular nation especially with the aim of gaining and maintaining the nation's self-governance over its homeland. Nationalism holds that a nation should govern itself, free from outside interference, and that the nation is the only rightful source of political power for its own self.
It attains to build and maintain a single national identity based on shared laws, respect for the fellow citizen, and a shared desire to live and work peaceably amongst each other to keep peace and continuity in the country. Nationalism strives to acknowledge and show respect for the foundations of the country.
