I had a 67 Olds Cutlass with a 330 V8 310 HP. It was the same family as the Olds 350. The equivalent of Chevy's 327 V8. I later put in an early 400 Big block V8 from a wrecked 67 Olds 442. It ran 14.20s at the drag strip at 99 mph with tire spin. 3.31 gears with Chevy 12 bolt rear end with positraction. Slow by today's standards, but not for 1986.
It was very reliable.

LTC (Join to see) - You are right about those nylon gears, in My 326 Tempest I had to replace the timing chain and gear, took Me one day to get it apart having to take out the radiator, front of the engine etc. and another to put it together but now with a new metal gear instead of nylon wasn't going to do that twice. Even made a drawing of where the timing marks were to make sure that was right also when Me and a friend put the new timing chain and gear in.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter I had a 67 Cadillac convertible With A429V8 Cadillac Engine and I had to do with the exact sametning.
I think it was planned obsolescence.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter Same issue here with timing gear except it was with a 69 GTO. Texas and California convinced me I needed air conditioning so I traded the 68 for a 69 that had a/c.

I had a 1969 Chevy SS 396. It was very overpowered. I bought it off a car lot in Tampa enroute to Ft Campbell Ky. Coming off the lot, there were 4 lanes of very heavy traffic. When I saw a small break, I gunned it and my foot slipped off the clutch. The next thing I knew, I was sliding sideways on the furthest lane and scaring everyone around, myself included.
