Up at Costco today I met five Veterans. One guy and his wife joined us for the hot dog and soda. He was Vietnam/Airborne (two tours). His wife was the daughter of a High Ranking Officer sent to Japan in 1950. She was five years old when they got to Japan, and the war had only been over for five years. The place was still a mess. (and she went to both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, while they were both still probably glowing!)

She told us that the Japanese kids would throw stuff at them as they came out of the building all the American's lived in. So her Mother made cookies and lemonade and set up a table outside. Soon those very same Japanese kids that taunted and harassed the American School kids, became their "Protectors."
They never had another problem the whole two years they were stationed there.

Creative and effective response to a negative situation. Good for them.

I know, times have changed since the 1950's.
