Did cooler heads prevail in this political appeasement offering?

Capt Chris McVeigh as a concealed carry permit holder here in NC, I'm puzzled by the issue of background checks, as NC performs them for the CCW here.

Not having much information about the terrorist watch list, it's difficult for me to have an informed opinion. However, if the "terrorist watch list" is like the "no fly list," I have an objection. The "no fly list" has no provisions for redress. There isn't an organized standard for assignment onto the list. There has to be some recourse for one who is listed to challenge the list. If I am communicating with a friend or family member who happens to lives abroad, do I get placed on the terror watch list? How do I challenge the listing?

If we continue to give up our freedoms under the guise of protection, at which point does our freedoms no longer exist?

The no fly list is notoriously broad, the terrorist watch list is a smaller group of people "known or reasonably suspected of being involved in terrorist activity." I would be willing to bet the recourse already exists in the form of the normal court system. If you are prevented from purchasing a gun due to being on the list, then you clearly must be informed of this which means you could sue in court and require that the government present their evidence against you. Maybe more clarity could be added to what is required to place someone on the list, but that may already exist in some less published form.

NC may perform background checks, however gun laws vary hugely state to state as federal legislation is consistently shot down. Many states do not require checks.
