Have you ever heard Eva Cassidy? She only made two albums and died at thirty. But she was the last "new singer" for me. Other than Chris Stapleton who I first heard about six years ago. Anything past 1980 and I know one or two.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Wow! Loved the Hotel Mini Doc, and in that song the drummer was driving the beat, and the bass was right with him. Never lost the drummer once. It had a bit of the old "Doors" "Jefferson airplane" vocals to me.
