Some have complained on RallyPoint about political discussions. They claim they are seeking refuge from the political acrimony they find on civilian social media. Well, they may have come to the wrong place. It seems that we who serve/served are more politically motivated than our civilian counterparts. For example, the VFW National Commander-in-Chief states in the October issue of VFW Magazine, that 78% of those with prior military service voted in the 2016 elections while just 49% of non-veterans voted. However, it seems to me that the discussions are different on RP from those you find on civilian social media. With rare exceptions, differences of opinion on RP are more respectful. Yes, we are just as passionate as civilians, maybe more so. But there is an underlying respect here on RP that isn't found on Facebook, Twitter, and others. (Although, as an aside, it may be that the censorship practiced on civilian social media may cause some of the passions to get out of hand. As I've watched political discussions transpire on Parler which is free of censorship, the temper of discussions are very similar to those on RP. Thus, censorship or freedom from censorship may have an equal impact with shared respect.) Whatever the reason, let's keep it civil and vote on November 3rd...

We'd like it to be civil.
Alas, not everyone can control themselves.
