I can honestly say my time in Scouting helped me a lot in life, it lead me to my career choices and made me a better person. Thanks to Lord Bade Powell I believe a lot of young folks can say the same.

It started as a great organization, and I was part of it and proud to be in it. Sadly and shamefully, here in the United States, the BSA has morphed into a less than trustworthy organization.
“On February 18, 2020, the National BSA filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is currently restructuring its financial situation. On November 16th, 2020, the National BSA disclosed in their bankruptcy filings that 92,700 former Scouts had reported sexual abuse by members of the organization.”

Sir, Yep. BP would have been sad regarding this.

But, Scouting USA will emerge better. Admittedly, the violation of the first Scout Law should NEVER of taken place. It did, now it is about rebuilding and restoring trust!!! It will take some work!!!

This was my SM! Here is his story!!!

I had a great scouting experience, CPO Nate S., which we’ve discussed on an earlier thread. I made Star, but I had enough merit badges for Life. We relocated to another state and I did not seek out another troop. One of my greatest regrets is not having made Eagle Scout. But that was when being an Eagle Scout truly had great meaning and I’m not so sure it’s quite the same thing nowadays. I hope it is.
Having said that, there are mountains that the BSA (no longer the Boy Scouts of America, I don’t think) must climb to survive, much less emerge better. The controversial mortgaging of Philmont Ranch (ostensibly to pay for sexual abuse lawsuits?), the increase in annual fees, the predator Scoutmasters are just a few of the issues that face BSA. Can BSA actually root out all of the bad people currently within the ranks? Can the BSA really restore the trust that they lost? By the way, I remember the Scout Laws and used the word trustworthy with purpose in my original comment.
I hope that you’re correct CPO Nate S., and BSA does emerge better. However, I’m not so optimistic, and I would never recommend that any child join the BSA that exists today.

Excellent history share Lt Col Charlie Brown , I was in the Boy Scouts in the town that I use to live in, had a great scout master , and a great group of people that belonged to the pack.
