I work with medically frail children, if rather we err on the side of caution.

Define intelligent manner... There's a lot of debate on opening businesses and services such as barbers for example. Despite the overreaction by some to their opening, I went to get my haircut and I couldn't be more satisfied with the measures they took to keep their clients safe. Same goes for a restaurant I recently went to. I would imagine schools and those who run them will make good use of the summer break to intelligently open them.

Dr Fauci, with all due respect, speaks only to his assessment of the science behind Covid19, not the politics and certainly not the economy. Some could argue he has it easy to only be responsible of providing his expert opinions on the science. Meanwhile our government has a much larger role to take and much harder decisions to deal with. Our economy can only endure so much before we cross a line where people become more desperate and resort to even more drastic measures. This leads to other avenues, affecting our country's safety and security, also leading to potential deaths. Do you think Dr Fauci has this fact in his sights? No, because that's not his job or his lane.

This isn't to say we should ignore Dr Fauci, but again, he does not speak to the big picture. Few people are suggesting we just go back to the old normal. Let's do it as smart and as safely as possible, without getting hung up on the worst case scenarios. At this point I think most can agree that Covid19 isn't going away too soon. The best thing we can do is build a system of mitigations like many businesses are are stepping up and trying to do. Will it be perfect? No. There will still be flare ups and additional mitigations to apply as we go.
