You have several issues:

1. There are nukes on board. Hit Tokyo, hit Berlin. Game over.

2. History. We know it. So we know where the Japanese will be on June 6th, 1942, etc.

3. Sensors. Modern CVN can pick up any threat. So no opportunity to test a Japanese air raid on the flight deck.

4. Modern weapons. Scramble the strike squadron with four Harpoons under the wings. Each plane is able to take out four ships. Laser guided bombs against the carrier and battleship targets. Game over in one to two days.

I did not consider Nukes! I know Marines guard them. Did you watch the video? I wanted to see what you thought on how detailed this Russian youtuber was. I know this story is fantasy just like the 1980 movie Final Countdown.

LTC (Join to see) there’s two ways you can go: keep to 70’s like the movie or go modern.

If we stay 70’s, just Nimitz goes back. There are nukes on board, Harpoon is in service and you have TV guided bombs which aren’t as “gee-whiz” as lazer, but dropped from a jet onto a ship that can’t jam it, is going to be painful. A 2000lb bomb in 1975 is still 2000lbs. Our main problem will be fuel. So assuming that the carrier has enough fuel for x days, then x needs to be a quotient. So the Nimitz would have to do everything it can in basically x number of missions.

The Bombat doesn’t exist yet, so the Tomcats would stay home. A-7 and A-6 would equal 1 ten squadron A-6 and 2 twelve squadron A-7 attack squadrons. Let’s say 2 Harpoons and 4 TV bombs for each plane: that’s 204 Japanese ships on the bottom or mission kills.

YouTuber can’t really go modern as the Burke’s and Tiko can’t use 1940’s fuel. So sadly, they are abandoned or sail until the fuel runs out. Assuming each Burke/Tico has 24 Tomahawks, that’s 72 dead ships right there.

Also remember that everyone is trigger happy so Nimitz can’t sail into Pearl. Fly a team out clandestine using the choppers to land at Nimitz’s house and take him back to the Nimitz. That’d be the only way.

LTC (Join to see) I agree with PO3 Donald Murphy. I sometimes get annoyed with videos made by folks whose only concept of war is the video games they spend all day playing.

Interesting but a lot of flaws in his assumptions IMO.

In my honest opinion, with what we have for technology, it would be a close draw on that LTC (Join to see)

This Russian guy does a scenario that the u.s. Navy is totally gone except for that carrier battle group. He does it with and without the US supplying aviation fuel. It is a pretty interesting scenario and also takes into consideration that many Weapons Systems cannot work without GPS and satellites
