Frankly NYC subways are safer today than when we went to NYC on dates in the early 60s. Ya, we used them out of necessity and with the invincibility of youth, but we never really felt safe.

I Was In The City In 1959...When I Met Our Dad There...
He Flew In from Port Arthur, Texas; And I From Panama..
Did Ya Get A Good Look At Those Cops?..... Long Hair, Unshaven,
Sloppily Dressed & Looked Like They Could Have Been Homeless Bum.
Except NYC Bums Don't Look Quite That Bad.
It Was Quite A Sh*t-Hole Back Then, And I'd Doubt It's Any Better Now..

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney Ya, it's only attraction for us was that you could drink alcohol in NYC at 18 then. So, several times a year a bunch of us would make dates where we took the 1500 train from Hartford to NYC, do our thing then catch a train back to Hartford that got in around 0600.

I Was 15 When I Went To NYC & Purchased Whiskey, Vodka & Gin In A Close By Liquor Store. Never Asked For ID, Nor Questioned My Age. And Since Our Dad Was An Alcoholic, I Visited The Store Rather Frequently.~~ LOL ~But True.... And, As The Joke Goes:
"We Didn't Even Know He Drank, Until We Saw Him Sober Once" ~~ We Should Have Posted A Poster Board On Both Sides Of Him, ~ "No Smoking Within 50 Feet"~ ...OH We Have a Pile Of Jokes ~~ I'm Just One Of Them...
