In March 2009, Forstchen’s latest work, One Second After, (Forge/St. Martin’s books) was released. Based upon several years of intensive research and interviews, it examines what might happen in a “typical” American town in the wake of an attack on the United States with “electro-magnetic pulse” (EMP) weapons. Similar in plotting to books such as On the Beach and Alas Babylon, One Second After, is set in a small college town in western North Carolina and is a cautionary tale of the collapse of social order in the wake of an EMP strike. The book has been optioned by Warner Bros. and currently is in development as a feature film. The book was cited on the floor of Congress and before the House Armed Services Committee by Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R.-MD), chair of the House Committee tasked to evaluate EMP weapons, as a realistic portrayal of the potential damage rendered by an EMP attack on the continental United States.

None of these is really me so I went with four, mainly only for the first part.

If an EMP went off and affected my region I think first things first I would just be generally confused as to what happened. After realizing all electronics were inop and coming to the conclusion that it was in fact an EMP attack I would pack some supplies and hoof it from my apartment to base under the assumption that the base already has plans in place for what to do in the situation. If the base didn't have a plan and just sent me away then I would head back to my apartment, gather as much as I could, lock my apartment and begin my long treck home to ND to find my family and friends and start living the simple life there I guess.

In the event of an EMP, I think the simple life would begin 'One Second After'. My extended family lives 800+ miles away in NorCA. I would have to shelter in place and hope they would do the same and survive the best they could.

See how many ancient skills I still remember and probably see if I can hunt down an R-390 Receiver. EMP Just fries IC Chips which is everything these days. Maybe find someone with an Old Tube Amp and Electric Guitar to listen some tunes. I will have the joy of knowing that everybody is just as screwed as I am since when it comes to IT we already are one world government since Data Bases for even some of our Enemies reside in our country and their data just went bye bye. I'm a very old school RF Technician and I would be instantly in Demand like I've never been before while this country tries to restore Communications.

I can show you how to Simulate One too pretty good. Did it as a Kid. Spark Gap Generator, RF Transmitter and RF Amp. Knocked out a whole city block pretty good.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king! If such a reset does occur I might find comfort in this being a global issue. Stone age is being optimistic; more like medieval Dark Ages once again...

Tell you CPO Andy Carillo, MS, CRC if I was a believer in the Grand Conspiracy way of thinking I would say the Gov't set me up to work for them knowing I would be more dangerous opposing them. LOL!

Well, I guess I can't Google what to do next......As it happens, I keep my house fairly well stocked (at least 2 weeks worth) with emergency food and water. After that I think it's going to be a real learning experience for everyone as the area effected goes back to the stone age in a matter of seconds. This is an attack that we never really think about. Maybe I should Google it now.

The night southern CA and parts of AZ went dark I thought about it A LOT! So did my newest friends the neighbors who hadn't given me the time of day until then...
