Where should the Federal Government make the pay cuts?

First off, axe the foreign aid to Pakistan and Egypt-I am sorry guys but they have said and done enough that shows their loyalties lie elsewhere-especially since Bin Laden was hiding right under their noses in their equivalent of Annapolis. With that being said, either reduce or axe it completely, they are foreign entities, not territories.
Secondly, eliminate the wellfare state of this country in its entirety. Leave it to the states, churches, religious organizations, and local municipalities to assist people. Having the government bear the burden of millions of people doesnt help, and that s some money that could easily be spent elsewhere.
Third-eliminate Obamacare, or excuse me, the Affordable Care Act, in its entirety. It ran fine without the government stepping in, and now look at it-squandered money in corruption cases abound, a website that doesn t work and more people losing money and coverage left and right.
Fourth-cut taxes. A lot of people don t like Herman Cain, but he had the right idea about taxes-simplify the tax code to a flat rate of 9-9-9, 9 percent across the board on everything. It saves people money, the government doesn't allocate taxes accordingly, and it prevents the government from using it as a crutch...especially since some people don t pay taxes to begin with, it would force the upper echelon on the Beltway to completely re evaluate how their money is spent.
Fifth-do everything possible to spur job growth. There are plenty of people out there looking for work. More work, more profit, more money, more money in the hands of the people, and in turn, more profit means money for expansion, growth, and new sectors. I am not saying that this will be the case in all fields, but they say peer pressure is a mother, and we can eliminate the bad fruit right away.
So in essence this isn't really an idea for tax cuts, but how we can get this train back on track, turned around, and going the right direction. There are still going to be issues plaguing us from left and right, namely immigration, but beyond that, this is at least removing pressure off the seams of a very weak ship. I hate to say it guys, but if you are drinking the Kool Aid you think we are fine. We are not, corruption abounds in DC, were spending money like its going out of style, the world laughs at us, and we are consistently taking actions that make us look weak and powerless.
Case in point-hash tag diplomacy and putting it on Twitter to two people who probably don't use it, don't care, and won't care. Pressure from the 500 or so million Americans won't piddly without some serious clout behind a closed fist.

Social Security was set up during the New Deal, and therefore was not expected to last as long as it has.

Both parties have lost their souls. Do you have any facts for your statements? Your evidence so far is "I've heard." It is fine to disagree with a web-site, but please counter with something? We all have money taken from our pay, but that does not mean it is enough to pay all the costs of the program in the future.
I think my favorite part of your post was blaming the GOP for sending the Social Security money...while they are bad, they cannot hold a candle to the Democrats.

And it's clear that certain individuals in this thread clearly did not pay attention in their high school government or history classes. Learn from the mistakes of others as you will not live long enough to make all of them yourself.

I would love to see a Constitutional amendment that sets term limits for members of both houses of Congress. We have career politicians who care about nothing more than getting re-elected, causing them to tell us what we want to hear and not fulfilling their promises to us.
I'm pissed at both parties. Democrats have gone too far to the left and Republicans too far to the right. Decisions today are based on nothing more than what will get them votes in their re-election bids.
Government has created money costing programs that are not mandated by the Constitution. Many of these programs do nothing more than make people dependent upon the government to care for them. I believe most people would want to and should be responsible for themselves.
Face it, the only way for people to be able to take care of themselves and be responsible for themselves is through capitalism. It's the private sector that creates the jobs where people can succeed and care for themselves, to plan for and fund their retirement years. What we have is a government today who feels it's necessary to interfere with the private sector by creating more policies and regulations into place that actually restricts the job growth necessary in this country.

There are two areas in my opinion, welfare entitlements and foreign aid. I retired from state social services where I ran a welfare fraud unit. Half of the cases that were certified in my state were fraudulent by some degree. Five years after I retired the state is still prosecuting the cases I put into the system for action. Foreign aid looks good on paper, but the reality is it makes people in other countries hate us because it exposes the weaknesses of its people and leaders for not being able to meet the needs of the people. That is a concept in social psychology that has been around for a long time, but seldom considered when providing the aid. We usually have a political motive for providing aid and it usuall does not benefit the people it is intended for.

CPL Brown, great plan above but it's still way too much. They should get much less than that. As SGT Davidson stated, they should ONLY get paid while in session which should be not very often.

I agree with SSG Andres, but I would add that they should not be allowed to vote themselves raises, we the people who elected them should be the ones voting on weather they get a pay raise or not. Term limits are a must and a cap on pay amount. They are Public Servants and should only get paid when they are in session.

Its been that way since the Civil War. Congress thinks that they are entitled to more and the soldiers are not worth a dime. Well, its the other way around in my opinion. Since it was the Soldier, Sailor, and Marine that gave us the freedoms we so cherish and defend to this day along with the Air Force and Coast Guard.
