O-1 to O-3 salute O-4 to O-10

O-4 salutes O-5 to O-10

O-5 to O-6 salute O-7 to O-10

In short junior officers only salute senior officers and admirals
and senior officers only salute admirals.

Is this a safe line of thinking?

An officer salutes anyone who outranks them, and is saluted by anyone they outrank.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - That's the regulation. But the regulation is written at the 6th Grade Reading Level, which puts it beyond the capabilities of most 1st and 2nd Lieutenants.

Why do we keep seeing these questions? I remember...was it...yes! DAY ONE in the Army they taught me who and when to salute! Everyone from the lowest ranking private to the highest ranking 5-star (yes there is such a thing) General salutes someone, either initiating the salute or returning the salute. I don't understand why everyone is so hung up on this. The salute is not a bad thing. It is the greeting between practitioners of the profession of arms, and is rendered out of respect to that persons rank, position, and profession. I have seen those of equal rank salute each other to show respect. I have saluted those who I personally thought were a$$holes because I was rendering respect to the rank and to the traditions of the service, not because I was saluting the person. Yes, 2LTs salute 1LTs. Yes, LTCs salute COLs. What about this subject is hard to understand? Jeez. I swear, the next person that asks about saluting on this website........ Oh yeah, before anyone asks, we ALL salute the President, regardless of who holds the office! WHEN IN DOUBT, WHIP IT OUT! Nobody will ever be pissed at you for saluting, but if you don't salute when you are supposed to...then you might catch a butt chewing.

If' you are still alive after an encounter with one CPT M, then you can let me know.

Just watched "Lone Survivor" last night. I maintain a pretty strict personal rule about "based on real life" movies - I have to read the book first so I can get the real story in order to pick out the "artistic license" stuff. I ignored my rule because I needed a good fix so I watched it and if even half of it is true, DAMN!!!

The truth is actually a little more harrowing!

The part where you see Luttrell hobble to the stream....he crawled and according to some accounts it was about 7 miles. I am not sure if I believe that completely, but that part was left out because they said it would be unbelievable.

The other major part is that the village did not fight the Taliban. The village's force was too large and the Taliban knew better than to take them on. The Taliban did try to sneak in and take him though.

They utilized the reporting for Extortion 17 being shot down in August 2011 for the basis for the Chinook that was shot down in the movie as a tribute to Extortion 17 and the NAVSPECWAR members that were on board.

I watched it Sunday night for the first time. It had taken me a while to want to watch it after the reaction of some of the Soldiers I know from B Co., 7-158th AVN. Due to this, I waited to watch it. It was worth a watch. Good flick.

Oh yeah, read the book! Glad I read it back in 2011. Watched movie last month and was a bit disappointed by distorted facts and Hollywood drama
