Some of the first women serving on submarines have been filmed while in the dressing area and showering over the past year. The Navy is still investigating the case and not many details have been released. The incident took place on USS Wyoming (Gold Crew).

So far the perpetrator has only been identified as a second class petty officer (E-5) who works at the Trident Refit Facility at Kings Bay, GA.

There were at least three female officer victims. More details below in the Navy Times article.

On top of the obvious unsatisfactory behavior, it is plain disrespectful; to women, to officers, the rest of the crew, to the Navy and to our Nation. There is not a hole deep enough to put those responsible into.

Every person on that boat that heard and did not report, that observed and did not report, that received copies (because you know that happened) and did not report, that filmed, that had anything to do with filming should be be punished to the absolute ceiling of the maximum range. I would envision years of breaking big rocks into little ones.

Then, they can register as sex offenders and live with that little nugget of good feeling for the rest of their lives.

Unf*cking believable. A clear message must be sent on that type of behavior. I am not naive enough to think that the military does not have idiots in it, nor that this will not happen again. There just needs to be swift and harsh punishment, with the results made public so that service members will if not get it, be made fully aware of the consequences for idiocy.

And to those female officers, apologies from the rest of the decent service men. It drives me crazy to think that could be by daughter being treated like that by fellow SMs.

On a secondary note, I heavily disagree with those who are berating PO1 Walter Duncan. What he stated is accurate and indicative of the problem overall. He is NOT trivializing what occurred but highlighting the resulting extreme uber overreactions to egregious behavior. Let me be absolutely clear, there is NO room for behavior such as the above incident and the likes but, as PO1 Duncan alluded to, turning around and prosecuting and labeling someone as a sex offender for "peeing" in their backyard is ludicrous at best and insidious at worst. There has to be a clear undeniable and enforceable standard for behavior that does not envelop the truly trivial and innocuous behavior.

I think, unfortunately there is a conflict. My comments pertaining to the sub situation and an overreaction in the civilian world of stupid acts of youngsters that do not require charges that should follow them a lifetime have received more interaction than I expected. Some feel one and the other are the same, far from it. This is what occurs with different topics on social media, people take an opinion as fact and run. When not knowing the actual intent behind the conversation. I have had several people concur more things about my intent on 1 topic than I have had in a long time. These are reasons in the military we have panels that have live review panels to interview an individuals knowledge, it removes any doubt. On paper an answer may be in question , but live in person you can remove any question you may have. Civilians have court, but normally legislatures make laws and normally the majority of that is done by attorneys and that is why it is so screwed. Just remember social media is a forum, not a BBQ, your opinion does not have weight, regardless of how much you may scream it does not make it right. Finally, I hope, your opinion is encouraged by all, but remember there are more to words than the type and more to type than paper. Today they have a viral affect, which can take a minor opinion or phrase and it become some social-economic rant. Technology is not always better if the users are not compatible with the systems.

UNfortunately PO1 Walter Duncan - even in a live panel discussion the person being interviewed about a specific event or situation can (and often 'does') lie or deny the truth until confronted with overwhelming evidence about his (or her) 'take' on the matter. For the most part, I agree with you but it's very difficult to predict an outcome strictly from logic, as not everyone thinks on the same plain as most others. As far as Lawyers go - remember that old joke? "What do you call a thousand Lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? ----------------------------- A start"!

Unsat. Invasion of Privacy AND Sexual Harassment AND Conduct Unbecoming. Prosecute to fullest extent.

Edit: Someone here at work made an interesting point: a charge of covert collection against US Naval Personnel aboard a US Submarine (as in espionage) might bear greater fruit than the usual discipline avenues.

I fill like the things that happen in our military now and days is two mainstream. It's all about politics now. Whatever is best for political views. Not the victims. Things are not like they were even ten years ago. The navy and military in general has gotten soft and gone away from what our four fathers made the navy to be. Now we let anyone in and are more focused on what everyone fills is far or hurts there fillings that we don't set the hard line truth. Your a war fighter if your emotions are getting in the way of your duties as a U.S. Sailor Then Get The F*ck out of my navy and be like the rest of the world. Otherwise take what you do with honor, comet to what is written in blood from our four fathers, and have the courage to stand up and protect those who served or serve beside you MAN or Woman. And enuf with the rascal stuff. From the time you was given your uniform you was told there is no color in the military when it comes to people. There is zero tolerance In our military for this. The people that can't get it get the boot out. If you don't get it get out. If you betray a fellow brother or sister you don't have the right to wear the uniform of a military man or woman.

Agree completely. The submariner(s) involved should be charged and prosecuted. It is a disgrace.

As a woman, I can only shake my head. Not really surprised. If I recorded guys taking a shower, would the public react similarly?
Good question.

It does NOT matter what sex the offender is WRONG IS WRONG. The person or persons doing this should be punished to the full extent of the UCMJ. I know if I ever caught one of my people doing this their peers would be punishing them if you get my drift.

SSG(P) (Join to see),what I think it that the story is over-sensationalized and doesn't do anything but cause even more divisiveness between the sexes. Right now, the military is still trying to integrate females into previously all-male occupations, and the media is handing out more fodder for the trolls. "Look! That's what happens when you put women into male units. See! We told you!" And simultaneously painting females as dainty little flowers. This wasn't a story about some pervert filming people in the shower. That's not good enough. We must emphasize that was a MALE pervert looking at FEMALES in the shower, because, well...men are pigs. I know that if I was a guy, I'd be particularly offended, because whether you agree or disagree, this incident type of over-reaction, by the general public, and fueled by the media, is trickling down to ALL of us in uniform. We're all so paranoid about SHARP complaints that it is fueling a malcontent here...across both sexes.
The COC should have handled this on its own, without input from the peanut gallery. The dumbass that filmed it should have been dealt with-and harshly. (Though I think a more fitting punishment, for the most extreme adherents to gender roles, is to sentence him to a duration onboard, with the now pissed-off and agitated female Officers. By the end of the assignment, the media could photograph the gouges he's made attempting to open the hatch and drown himself.) If you find the reversal of roles in this scenario horrifying, I've made my point.

You mention division between the sexes...all along I was sure we were trying to close that gap. Make women more like men. Opening up combat MOS', equality, and all the sensitivity training, is it all in vain. Women can be just as bad as men. There are appropriate places for a woman. I'm not sure on an all male Sub is one of them. I struggle with that decision. Whether this was a woman or a man, it truly doesn't matter and you are probably correct, the media grabs a hold if it and sensationalizes every thing it can get their hands on. I'm sure there is lots of old school thinking. Let's get these women off the sub...it's not happening.

I don't think the military is trying to 'make women more like men' - rather they are trying integrate them into a 'previously all male world' in the name of equality. Let's face it, they (women) have been getting the short and of the stick (pardon the pun) for far too long! It's long over due that they SHOULD HAVE any job or position they are seeking, IF they have the desire (again no pun intended), qualifications, and the ability to perform the choice as good (or 'better') than a man. That goes for PAY as well!! There are way too few women getting the respect they are DUE and it IS (again) LONG OVER DUE for them to be let out from under the OLD traditions of our culture and society, having been controlled by men for centuries. I'm on the side of "what's RIGHT" not what 'was'. Time to move on!
