We all know what that means in the military. It was reported yesterday in a Stars and Stripes article SMA Daniel Dailey made the following statements:

"We are a nation that’s coming away from war … and the economy is getting better,” he said. Really - on either?

“That’s good from a national perspective. [But] historically we’ve seen a drop in accessions based upon the increase in the economy because potential recruits have more job opportunities elsewhere." More/better job opportunities in the civilian sector? Tell that to all the unemployed Service people recently retired/separated who can't find employment.

"We have the responsibility … to preserve our nation’s wealth [and] we have to be able to exercise caution when we use the gracious gift of the taxpayer’s dollar,” he said, adding that he’s confident that civilian leaders “will give us the resources we need to accomplish our mission.” We should be good stewards, unlike Congress, but do you really think the military will get what we need, or what Congress wants to give us?

I know the position requires an amount of Political Correctness, but I'm left shaking my head. My hope to have someone at the top tier of a branch of service go up there and tell it like it is is dashed. I wish he would have kicked ass and taken names, but we all know he would not last long if he did - well, all I can say is have I ever told everyone how much I loathe and detest political correctness and politics?

With that said, I sincerely have the upmost respect for the new SMA and wish him the best. I'm glad he is there and I think we were long overdue for a new SMA. I hope he does make some changes - only time will tell - just stay away from the kool aid cooler!

The Kool-Aid, huh? Look, the SMA isn't new to the game and he wouldn't have got the job if he wasn't "on board." What did we expect him to say on his first couple of interviews? "This is ALL JACKED UP!!" Here's what we need to do to fix what's going on and screw what the President and General Odierno has in mind!! Yeah...no. He's got to balance what is right for Soldiers with what the civilians in charge are demanding of THEIR military. He's the right guy at the right time. Let's give him some mileage before we go throwing kool-aid all over the place.

CSM (Join to see) I had to read what he said, twice before it caught. When he used the word "historically" in his comment, he was basically correct in his statement. Now if he was using that statement to relate to "current times" then he's has more than just kool-aid in his cup and had too much of it to drink.

His 2nd statement is another politically correct statement stating what we all should expect of our military leaders in the beltway just as we do (did) of our leaders at the bSattalon, bde and Div. level.
Let's hope when he sits down to testify in front of Congress and those oh so successful select committees, he will leave the talking points and political correctness in his footlocker....and tell things as they really are, what ever the topic!
We will see! Wish him much success....but hope he don't forget where he came from and all the Soldiers who are back there, carry the load and accomplish the missions the politicians send them out to accomplish!

Don't forget the SMA is no less a "Political Appointee" than any other senior level official. He may not be vetted by Congress, by he is rigorously vetted, and he is going to "tow the line" of whomever is in office, and whomever the sitting head of Service is.

Think back to SMMC Barrett's comments in 2014 when he said Marines getting paid less would lead to better discipline.

Comments like these are "Aye, Aye, Sir, Three bags full." Parroting, of someone else's opinion. Carefully tailored messages from Public Affairs USA/USMC/Etc, not from SgtMaj X.
